Steve Clarke urges West Brom to vent frustrations - expressandstar.com

West Brom boss Steve Clarke today urged his side to take out their frustration on Newcastle after revealing their enforced lay-off has left his players 'tetchy.'

The Baggies head coach reckons his side are desperate to get back into action after two weeks without a game following their home defeat to Arsenal.

That followed another loss at West Ham and Clarke said: "The training this week has been intense. The players are a little bit tetchy and they are looking forward to a game.

"We have had a big break in the season at a strange time. Normally you are playing game after game to get into a rhythm. We have not managed to do that.

"Now we have six games in 30 days and we are looking forward to them. I am really mindful of that, and this week the players have been mindful too.

"There has been an edge to the training, which has been good for me to see. We need to put the two defeats out of the way and get back to picking up more points.

Clarke has declared Liam Ridgewell fit after he missed training earlier this week but young midfielder Isaiah Brown is ruled out of the squad with a groin injury.

And Peter Odemwingie is still missing ,with Clarke insisting his absence is down to a knee injury and not his disputes with the club.

Clarke took his coaches away for a golf trip during the break while his players organised a golf event of their own.

Wolves and West Brom shelled out over £750,000 more to their highest-paid director than neighbours Aston Villa did last season, according to a report.

Boss Steve Clarke today revealed he wants a 'marquee' signing for West Brom this summer – and hinted the club might also need to splash out next January.
