Newcastle United In Talks to Seal Shock Move to Sign Man United Striker ... - caughtoffside

Man United striker Wayne Rooney is apparently the subject of an audacious approach from Newcastle United according to the Metro.

This source states that a news site owned by Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley, SportsDirect News, claims that the 27 year old England man has been earmarked as a stunning summer transfer target and an ideal man to lead the Magpies attack.

Talks between Newcastle United representatives and Rooney's agent are said to have already taken place and it should be noted that the North-East side did make a £25m offer for the attacker during his time at Everton and prior to his big money move to Old Trafford.

There is a chance that the story has been invented by SportsDirect News to generate traffic and interest in the site but one would imagine that the long term results of such a 'fake' claim would be do more harm than good.

Man United have confirmed that Rooney has made a transfer request and there is bound to be a great deal of interest in the club's fourth highest goal-scorer of all-time, though it should be noted that Bayern Munich have denied reports that they are keen on the wantaway star.

Newcastle United have experienced a disappointing campaign this season, which is in marked contrast to last term's efforts that so nearly yielded a Champions League berth.

Alan Pardew has brought in a number of new additions over the past two transfer windows and would no doubt be thrilled with the prospect of a possible deal to sign a player of Rooney's undoubted ability.

Wayne Rooney has been used in a more withdrawn striking role since the arrival of Robin Van Persie but has still managed to score 16 goals in all competitions and is the club's top assist maker to boot.

With Demba Ba moving to Chelsea in January and Papiss Cisse's form being up and down for much of the season it's clear that Rooney would be an excellent, and much needed, attacking addition.

Debating What the Michael Crabtree Injury Means for the 49ers' Super Bowl Hopes

The San Francisco 49ers' Super Bowl hopes took a major hit when star wide receiver Michael Crabtree went down with a torn Achilles tendon during organized team activities. Did the team's Super Bowl hopes go down with Crabtree?

Aaron Nagler and I debate just how big this injury is for the NFC favorites. Will the injury to Colin Kaepernick's favorite target end the 49ers' two-year run of dominance?

Mock Help Wanted Ad for Philadelphia 76ers' Open Head Coaching Position

Not going to lie to any of you out there...everyone here at the Philadelphia 76ers organization feels a little disappointed about trying to find a head coach by posting a "help wanted" ad, but we are a bit desperate.

Going 34-48 and missing the playoffs after getting to the Eastern Conference semifinals the previous year isn't what we were trying to do. Our goal now is to get back into a winning routine and to do it quickly.

As many of you know out there, Doug Collins was the former head coach of this team. We used his services for three years, and he did some positive things for the Sixers. Our defense grew, the younger players began to blossom and he even taught players like Thaddeus Young to play at a new position.

Please see our qualifications for the head coaching position with the Philadelphia 76ers and let us know if you have what it takes.

Sometimes life is about learning from your mistakes, and that is something that we will strive to do. One of our recent mistakes was hiring a man that hadn't been a head coach in seven years. In hindsight, it almost sounds like a ridiculous mistake. Why would we hire someone that hasn't recently coached?

Our new guy needs to have been an NBA head or assistant coach withing the last year. The NBA is a league full of change and getting somebody that is up to date on how to coach is vital toward Philadelphia's success.

The Sixers went through countless changes to their rotation as the season progressed this past year. Some of them were necessary due to injuries or fatigue, however, a number of them were random and didn't make sense.

Philly needs a coach that is willing to come up with a realistic rotation and sticks to his guns. He needs to understand that there will be times when it works out and times when it doesn't. Making small adjustments will be needed, but completely revamping certain parts of the lineup won't be tolerated.

Jrue Holiday, Evan Turner and Thaddeus Young are three of our best players and all of them are 24 years old or younger. If we choose to bring Andrew Bynum back, then you can add a 25-year-old to that list.

Our new head coach has to show that he has experience with developing young players. Having the ability to teach and help some of our younger players grow is going to be necessary toward our future success.

We truly believe that we have most of our future's core members already on this team. The problem is that we won't get anywhere unless they reach their potential and take us there.

It's hard to put a finger on it, but the Sixers have been missing somewhat of a competitive mindset for the past couple of years. It feels like we are okay with being just another team. "There are 29 others so we'll sit this season out."

The only way to the top is to want to get to the top. We need a coach that is determined to fight through any adversity with the intention of being the best team in the NBA. We don't expect you to get there overnight, but the expectation to eventually get to that point is there.

If you meet the previous criteria and agree with that philosophy, then please apply for the Sixers' head coaching position.

Arsenal 1-1 Manchester United: Van Persie punishment gets a place on his... - Yahoo! Activities

Theo Walcott gave the cause to the hosts in the second minute as Arsenal raced out of the blocks nevertheless the Gunners were pegged back at the conclusion of the half courtesy of a van Persie charge. Following a week's worth of speculation, van Persie started on his return to the Emirates while Lukas Podolski also made a rare start as Arsenal's central striker with Olivier Giroud lacking with suspension. The Gunners got off to the start in front of their red hot home help when Walcott beat the offside trap and comfortably discovered a way past David de Gea from a small angle within the second second. Santi Cazorla then stung the arms of the United owner with a shot from variety as Arsenal maintained their early impetus. Van Persie's first genuine participation in the sport was a miscued shot which sailed high over the bar Ajust after the 10 second mark, much to the joy of the Gunners' followers. These supporters then collectively held their breath minutes later when the Dutchman broke down the left flank before crossing for Phil Jones who did not find the goal with a header after surging in to the box. Wenger's men lost some of that early impetus while the first half proceeded but were stimulated back into existence when Jonny Evans brought down Walcott just outside the region. The free end was wasted but minutes later Arsenal had a glorious chance to increase its cause on the counterattack. Rosicky selected to move to Podolski, as opposed to the unmarked Walcott, but his shot could be only fired by the German from a small angle straight at De Gea. Strategy then had Wojciech Szczesny to thank for keeping it ahead prior to the break. The Poland international made himself big to keep out van Persie's header from point-blank range after a instant United counterattack. But minutes later van Persie made no mistake, this time around from the location, after Sagna's allergy challenge on the Dutchman gave United a punishment. The Gunners made a brilliant start following the break and might have gone forward early on but Tomas Rosicky's prod with the surface of his shoe whistled just at night De Gea's far post. Friend Alex's area quickly edged back in the contest and dictated the overall game for a period of time of a quarter-hour. Van Persie over-hit a low cross after dark onrushing Antonio Valencia before Wayne Rooney lost an excellent chance with a header right atASzczesny from close range. Collection rallied for a winner in a end-to-end end to fit with the visitors still a danger on the split but the clear-cut chance could be fashioned by neither side needed seriously to win the game. Cazorla came close with a powerful right-footed picture which was palmed away by De Gea with minutes left on the clock before a great opportunity was wasted by Ryan Giggs when found completely unmarked on the break by Rooney.

Reading 0 Manchester City 2: Aguero and Dzeko score as City begin life without ... - Daily Mail

It took 13 seconds. That's when the chanting started for Roberto Mancini and it was another 10 minutes before it stopped. Then it started again.

The fact Manchester City's section of the Madejski Stadium was barely half full last night told its own story about how the club's season has gone. But if those in power at the Etihad Stadium wanted even a modicum of support from the masses for their decision then they did not get it.

There were banners — Forza Mancini and Grazie Mancini — and there were Italian flags and there were songs. It will be of little comfort to City's hierarchy that small pockets of the home support had their own axes to grind and repeated the occasional tribute to Brian McDermott.

Reading: McCarthy, Gunter, Morrison, Mariappa, Kelly, Karacan, Guthrie, McCleary, McAnuff (Blackman 69), Robson-Kanu, Pogrebnyak (Le Fondre 62).

Man City: Hart, Richards, Toure (Maicon 15), Lescott, Clichy, Toure, Barry (Garcia 58), Milner, Silva, Tevez, Aguero (Dzeko 62).

Who would have thought these two clubs at opposite ends of the spectrums for spending power and Premier League points would sack the managers that delivered landmark achievements just last summer?

For Brian Kidd, City's caretaker manager, it wasn't actually a bad night, even if the tie was the deadest of rubbers. They won it when Sergio Aguero capped a passing move of utter brilliance with a sweet finish towards the end of the first half. To think it was a year and one day on from that 'Agueroooo' moment.

Edin Dzeko added a second late on after some magic from David Silva, but it could have, and should have, been far more convincing. Alex McCarthy in Reading's goal was superb. He is surely an England keeper in waiting, but that can't disguise the fact that again City didn't take their chances. In miniature, that has been the problem of their season and, arguably, what did for Mancini.

Irrespective, it's likely to be Manuel Pellegrini's problem now. Last night the aftershocks of Mancini's departure were still being felt, most notably in the form of a club statement at 6.52pm that David Platt had left his position as assistant manager.

After the game Kidd said: 'I've got to be honest, the last 48 hours has all come as a shock to the staff. All credit to the players. They have had to have put up with a lot of stuff (since Wembley) and it would have been a travesty if we had not finished second.'

For his part, Kidd made four changes to the side that blew their last chance of silverware at the weekend. In came Kolo Toure, James Milner, Micah Richards and Joleon Lescott; out went Vincent Kompany, Pablo Zabaleta, Matija Nastasic and Samir Nasri. Toure was back on the sidelines after 15 minutes with an injury.

Adkins stuck with the same players that beat Fulham 4-2 on Saturday — the only game he was won since he took over from McDermott in March.

It was perhaps indicative of Reading's wider campaign that Adam Le Fondre was named their player of the season ahead of the kick-off. Between him and the two other nominees — McCarthy and Hal Robson-Kanu — they had made 33 starts.

Fair as that decision might be, McCarthy is the man of the moment. His performance in the 0-0 draw against Liverpool last month was such that Brendan Rodgers described it as the best he had ever seen from a goalkeeper.

'He was very good,' Adkins said. 'We believe he can be a top four keeper, an international level keeper.' Indeed, keeping him might yet be Adkins' biggest challenge this summer.  'I am not looking to lose Alex,' he added.

In the third minute, McCarthy raced off his line and stopped Aguero. A minute later he dealt with Silva's shot from distance and then smothered an effort from James Milner.

Joe Hart made a good stop from Garath McCleary, but when McCarthy somehow contorted his body to keep out a Carlos Tevez header the Reading fans cast their vote: 'Alex McCarthy, he's better than you.'

But McCarthy couldn't stop City's opener. Milner was the architect, exchanging passes with Silva in the Reading area before rolling the ball first time through a tiny gap into Aguero's path. The finish was delightful.

But really it was the McCarthy show — his stop to deny Yaya Toure from distance just shy of the hour summed up his game. Tevez was frustrated again moments later.

Dzeko finally found a way through in the 88th minute, rolling the ball past McCarthy after a delightful reverse pass by Silva.

Creating the ideal Offseason Plan for the Golden State Warriors.

This team's core players are all under the age of 26, with Barnes in 20, Thompson at 23 and Curry bringing up the rear at 26. The potential is high for any two sharpshooters in your backcourt, but the highest upside is one of the young star from Nc.

Much ballyhooed and perhaps rather underrated after being seriously overrated in college, he exploded within the postseason, joining Tim Duncan along with Magic Johnson as members who scored over 20 ideas in multiple games.

To take the the proverbial next action, Thompson will need becoming a better ball-handler and dribbler, Curry an increased defender and, most notably, Barnes will need to get the scorer he is effective at being.

The Warriors almost never ran any plays with regard to him, only 6. 6 percent of his plays ended up off pick-and-rolls, according to help you Synergy, and if these people reversed this trend, the offense could explode.

Take the Denver Nuggets series such as: When Lee was available, Barnes exploded with more shots plus more spacing. The future is right now, and with the continued developments of their total young stars, the Warriors are on the way to becoming the other Oklahoma City Thunder.

Bay area 49ers: Michael Crabtree Damage Unleashes Questions in Passing Game.

With Michael Crabtree likely out for 6 months following surgery to repair his torn Posterior muscle group, Jim Harbaugh and Colin Kaepernick must now find a method to replace the massive production we were looking at looking to receive from them No. 1 option.

Provide Davis. Coming off the high heels of two back-to-back playoff explosions—104 yards with Baltimore Ravens and 106 yards as well as a touchdown against the Alpharetta Falcons—many were pegging Davis to enjoy a huge year anyway.

He'll will need to play like it in the event the San Francisco 49ers hope to weather the storm that Crabtree's injury has brought.

While the 49ers have become known for their real running game, the promotion of Kaepernick last season opened the threshold for increased production inside the passing game.

Crabtree was proof that. With Alex Smith for the helm for the to begin with eight games, Crabtree had amassed only 1 100-yard game and several touchdowns. Upon the victory of Kaepernick, those numbers jumped to help you three 100-yard games and six touchdowns with the second half of the growing season.

It continued in this playoffs, where the rising receiver added two even more 100-yard performances and a few touchdowns in three matches.

Only amassing 548 meters and five touchdowns past season, the 49ers will need much more from their former first-round pick and choose. He must now can what he was drafted to perform and what we know one is capable of.

He should be four years removed from his record-setting year during the past year, when he went designed for 965 yards and 13 touchdowns.

The Anquan Boldin trade now looks better following the injury. This similarities between Boldin and Crabtree are evident. None will ever be mystified for speedsters, but the valuable assets they furnish more than replace it.

Strong hands, the willingness to go down the midst of the field and your toughness to break by way of tackles are traits both men possess.

Whether or not the eleven-year veteran can keep up his solid production shall be instrumental in whether or not the passing game falters.

Using Mario Manningham having experienced a torn ACL and additionally PCL last December, his chance to produce upon his return will be in question. While reports have surfaced that he has began running in addition to cutting, via Josh Alper of NBC Sports, there is never security that a player ever returns the identical from that type involving injury.

The mystery nearby A. J. Jenkins is of an different variety. Upon entering camp using shape last season, the 2012 first-round pick was the mark of one pass last season. We have no concept of whether he is even capable of playing in this little league.

Still, he bulked up over the offseason and has been coping with Kaepernick for two calendar months, via Cam Inman within the San Jose Mercury Info. These seem to be signs that Jenkins can be in for a bigger role.

With numerous query marks surrounding the growing attack, Vernon Davis must be a relialbe source of output. He must become around just a vocal head. He's too skilled to never pick up the slack designed for Crabtree.

Theoretically official: Stu Holden called as many as United States camp.

We knew it was subsequently coming. Jurgen Klinsmann said as much just one or two weeks ago when he caused it to be clear that Stu Holden would be included in the united states Mens National Team's camp in advance of this summer's international friendlies (vs some sort of full-strength Belgium and reserve-ish Germany), Silver Cup competition, and Hexagonal qualifiers (vs Jamaica, Honduras, and additionally Panama).

"The last few months have given us many positive signals. I spoken to his coach in Bolton, and spoke to their coach at Sheffield Friday where he played some vital minutes and games whereas on loan. He's on his made use of.

"That being said, we should have him back within our picture. We are travelling to bring him for the May-June camp, and also for ones Gold Cup. "

The Gold Cup event begins in early July and the united states will open their operated with 9 July against Belize in Portland. The other two teams in the USMNT's group are Costa Rica along with Cuba. Newcastle United v Liverpool, Where to Watch Live, Preview, Team News - IBTimes.co.uk

Liverpool will travel to St James' Park on Saturday evening, hoping to move on from the Luis Suarez - Branislav Ivanovic incident. The Reds face the prospect of finishing a Premier League season behind arch-rivals Everton, who are five points ahead and still in the fight for European football next term. The reverse tie, at Anfield in November, finished 1-1 after Suarez cancelled Yohan Cabaye's first half strike.

Kick-off is set for 5.30pm BST. Live coverage starts an hour in advance and is available on ESPN and ESPN HD. Watch highlights on Match of the Day on BBC One and BBC One HD at 10.30pm BST.

Alan Pardew's men failed to hold on to an eighth-minute lead against West Brom last weekend. French midfielder Yoann Gouffran gave the Magpies an excellent start at the Hawthorns but the Tyneside club missed a string of chances to extend the lead and claim a valuable three points in the race to avoid relegation. Billy Jones equalised for Steve Clarke's men and both sides had to be content with a point each.

The defeat leaves Newcastle in 16th and precariously close to the drop zone; Wigan are 18th and six points back. The Latics would have played Champions League qualification hopefuls Tottenham at the DW Stadium two hours prior to kick-off here and a shock result there could see Newcastle finish the weekend only three points above the drop zone.

Pardew has only one win in the last five coming into this game; two of those were UEFA Europa League ties against Portuguese club Benfica and Newcastle were beaten 4-2 on aggregate. In the league, Newcastle have won only twice in the last seven and that includes defeats to Wigan and Sunderland.

However, in case Liverpool fans thought they would have an easy ride, Newcastle boast a rather strong home record this season. The Magpies have won nine of their 17 games so far. The fact they've lost seven of the remaining eight suggests it is usually an all-or-nothing approach at home. Newcastle have scored more goals at home than most of the sides in the bottom half of the table but, conversely, have also conceded far too many.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are still smarting from the 10-match ban handed to Suarez. The Uruguayan committed a rather ridiculous assault on Serbian defender Ivanovic last weekend: the former Ajax man bit Ivanovic on his right arm.

Pundits, experts and players have all weighed in since that ghastly incident, as have fans, but the upshot of it all is that the striker has accepted the FA's punishment and begins his suspension effective immediately.

It is a measure of Suarez's dual-sided nature on a football pitch that he was also responsible for a sublime last second header against the Blues that rescued a 2-2 draw for Brendan Rodgers. Liverpool are in poor form in the final weeks of the season, with only one win in the last five games; three of those were draws.

Overall, Liverpool have a mixed record on the road. They've won five and drawn seven of their 17 games and have both scored more goals and conceded more than most teams in the league.

Pardew is without No 1 goalkeeper Tim Krul (shoulder) and Frenchman Sylvain Marveaux (hamstring). Captain and influential defender Fabricio Coloccini (back) has returned to training but has yet to regain match fitness and will probably not play. The good news is Ivorian internationals Papiss Cisse and Cheikh Tiote have recovered and will start.

Suarez is suspended for the rest of the season and into the first few games of the next as well. This means Italian forward Fabio Borini finally gets a chance to show what he can do. The youngster was signed from AS Roma in the summer but injuries and Suarez's form has meant he has had little chance to shine.  Former Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge is likely to start this game though, after a superb cameo against the Blues last weekend.

Probable Line-Up: Reina; Johnson, Carragher, Agger, Enrique; Gerrard, Lucas Leiva, Henderson; Downing, Sturridge, Coutinho

What Should but will Happen at WWE Severe Rules 2013.

Sure, this Fandango fad is now for an unforeseen vehicle. Thanks to the dynamic crowd over in Eastern Rutherford, the man formally termed Johnny Curtis transformed straight into an overnight sensation.

For a particular, Jericho has already done the job Vince McMahon had sought after him for. As your first-ever WWE Undisputed Success and wrestling legend, Y2J graciously put using a young upstart in Fandango at WrestleMania off stages.

And for the people worrying about a likely loss damaging the stock of Fandango, it could not. In addition to this aforementioned 'Mania win, Fandango has experienced a good push just being inside of a program with Jericho. This point last year, the man was feuding while using WWE Champion CM Punk.

This feud, although slightly interesting, should now be meeting its end. And common wrestling knowledge tells you that the face ultimately conquers the heel. Jericho accumulates the win with that Codebreaker.

Very good news For Zach Johnson: Practical experience Matters At Colonial.

Normally, I'm not a big believer in superstition, but the other day I wrote my shortest intro with the year and, in turn, I was rewarded by the Gods with my a lot of successful week of selects in 2013. So, I'm testing out this limited word rely = Big Fantasy ideas theory again. This time for you to the extreme. If it doesn't work, I'm really digging deep on the Memorial next week: maybe an extended recap of of its previous 37 iterations or a look at the Jack Nicklaus statue relating to the grounds followed by a brief history of statues starting in the Bronze Age. None of people want that, so hope my heater continues.

Wow, I do have to help weigh in on the USGA together with R& A banning anchored putters starting in 2016, even though. Good. My only gripe is which it isn't being implemented automatically. It's about time person stopped these lousy cheaters.

Charl Schwartzel – Greens in regulation are usually a pretty useful stat to look at when predicting future results. The more GIRs a gamer collects, the better chance he's got of gaining strokes over the green. And the player leading the field in that stat generally results inside the Top 3 on the leaderboard come Sunday morning. It's quite the action. Of course, respectable putting has a bit related to it too, and Schwartzel does well in both lists. For the 2013 period, the South African is normally 29th in strokes gained over the green and 35th within GIR%, including a tournament record 28 within a row last week for the Byron Nelson. And how'd which go? A season most effective third place finish.

Chris Kirk – Keeping with strokes gained on a green narrative, the the top 2013 list is littered with the names you'd anticipate. Tiger, Sergio, Phil, Freddie Jacobson, Billy Horschel, Dorrie Stricker, Brandt Snedeker, Graeme McDowell, Kevin Streelman, Brian Gay and Sang-Moon Bae all appear contained in the Top 20. And of these group, only Sergio, Stricker and Freddy Yaks are generally yet to cash a novelty check this season – not prefer they haven't been close, though. Shockingly, despite just one Top 20 in this last eight starts, Kirk ranks seventh with the stat for the time of year. Now, he does employ a solo second, a T5, and has now made 11 of 12 sizes and shapes – including ten in the row – so your breakthrough is looming. Along with it's probably this week. Kirk is very aware of the course, collecting a T16 here a couple of years ago and a T5 within 2012.

Zach Johnson – I made a decision to weigh the Positives and negatives for Zach Johnson about his potential success in the Crowne Plaza. Pros: Two-time safe bet, hasn't missed the cut in his some of his seven career will begin, finished inside the Top every year since the year just gone, very close with The almighty. Cons: Looks like an idiot within the plaid winners jacket. May not want to look through that embarrassment again. Realization: It's a wash.

Bo Lorry Pelt – Yes, he played with the Volvo Match Play in Bulgaria a week ago – tying for 9th – but BVP doesn't require much prep time designed for Colonial. He's played this particular event nine consecutive times, never missing a slash, finishing inside the Top 20 on six various occasions. Three of which coming a final three years.

Tim Clark – After looking like he'd came up from his funk by having a T11 at The Masters then a T24 in Harbour Town, Clark plunged back with the nether regions of the leaderboard with the Players Championship opening 72/76, omitted his third cut within six events. Making is so important worse, he's actually fired more then one round of 75 or higher in each one of the last seven starts. Don't concern yourself with that at Colonial nonetheless. Clark's played the weekend in all of his last five excursions here, finishing outside the very best 20 just once, with a set runner ups to your partner's credit – 2008, the year just gone.

Marc Leishman – Jumped out for a hot start at this Bryon Nelson, firing a four under 66 to get started his week, but stalled, playing the next three days just one stroke in the red. Nonetheless, he still managed to post his fourth directly quality finish. No, his T12 ended his Top ten streak at three, nonetheless that's still close sufficient. He been as consistent because it gets, and in some weak(ish) field, with limited depth, that's the best type of player to take.

David Hearn – When calling it a week's worth of work towards Friday in Houston and getting the dreaded MDF with the Heritage seven days later on, the Canadian has been much better over his past a few events: Making the slash in each, cracking the superior 30 twice, including a T26 within the stacked field at Sawgrass. In addition to, Hearn's improved in the two his previous visits so that you can Fort Worth. He followed up your T44 in his freshman appearance which includes a T13 here last 12 months.

Kevin Streelman – More people should be aware Streelman's name. Well, maybe not. It works much better for people like us Fantasy golfers when consumers just glance past his name and advance: Because everyone should get rostering him, every 7-day period. Since taking home the greatest chunk of the wallet in Tampa, Streelman's experienced five tournaments. He followed up his win with a respectable T21 in an excellent strong field at These kinds of Hill, predictably missed the cut in mere his second trip so that you can Augusta, and has already been the Tour's hottest footballer since. Streelman hasn't finished worse yet than sixth in both of his past three will begin. The best? An impressive T2 with the Players two weeks ago.

Newcastle United tops survey of matchday travel among football fans - The Guardian

Manchester United may have bagged the Premier League title, but Old Trafford is relegation fodder when it comes to fans' transport needs according to research.

Newcastle United is the clear champion when it comes to transport options, according to a study of football fans' journeys published on Tuesday and carried out by the Campaign for Better Transport and the Football Supporters' Federation (FSF). Season ticket holders at the club can buy a £10 matchday travel ticket for Tyne and Wear that covers them for every home game of the season at their St James' Park ground.

Researchers surveyed fans and supporters' clubs, and assessed travel information and travel planning provided by clubs.

The report, Door to Turnstile, reveals that while fans often want to leave their cars at home they are prevented from doing so by poor public transport provision. Instead they are regularly "condemned to a weekly pattern of expensive parking and endless traffic jams."

The government is urged to take the lead by setting up free public transport with match tickets – along the lines of the popular and well-used KombiTicket in Germany – and individual clubs should routinely publish travel plans that include proposals for new facilities to improve access by walking and cycling as well as clear information about getting to the ground without a car. Transport operators should investigate a national football supporters' railcard with more flexible conditions, the report recommends.

Manchester United's Old Trafford ground comes 18th in the survey of 20 Premier League clubs and is described as "a major ground served mainly by low-capacity public transport, travel planning nearly a decade out of date and without safe walking or cycling routes."

Bottom of the pile is Reading's Madejski stadium: "comfortably the least accessible ground in this year's Premier League – out of town and virtually unreachable by regular public transport." And languishing at 19th is Queen's Park Rangers' ground, Loftus Road, where "despite London's extensive public transport, QPR have no coherent travel plan and offer poor information on how to get to Loftus Road

Fans of Arsenal, in second place in the survey, make full use of good public transport links at the club's Emirates stadium, where the percentage of fans arriving by car has been reduced from 30% to 10% since moving from their old ground. And in third place, improvements to Fulham's Craven Cottage have led to a high proportion of supporters combining public transport with walking to the ground.

Other key findings from the fans' survey include: 23% of fans spend more on travel than they do on a match ticket; fans travelling by train spend the most followed by lone drivers (most fans share lifts to games), with those travelling by bus spending the least; the average fan spends £55 on a match day with £13 going on travel, while train travellers spend £74, with £26 of this spent getting to the game.

Malcolm Clark, chair of the Football Supporters' Federation said: "Football's loyal supporters deserve more help to leave their cars at home and enjoy the day without hassle.

"Making matchday travel more convenient, pleasant and affordable would benefit everyone involved in football, and we hope to see these ideas employed more widely in future."

FIFA 14: Breaking Down Best Modifications from Previous Versions from Game.

FIFA 14 will not be out yet, but if the consist of changes are anything to go by, then the latest version within the famous game is shaping among the greatest yet.

Some with the proposed changes are much more obvious than others, and some will be better received by gamers themselves. That's the case with any game and the updates, and it's especially true to get a game like FIFA that has become probably the most iconic sports video games around the world.

Teammate Intelligence is improved on both sides within the ball. New decision-making common sense delivers tighter, smarter marking and increased run tracking where defenders recognize opportunities to produce support and win spine possession, while attacking players have new ways to outsmart their opponents by creating space for on their own, running along the backline and additionally checking their pace.

How often have people found yourself striding forward during the field and slid a wonderful through-ball to release a gamer through on goal, just for the striker to get wandered offside. Anything that you can try to stop that from happening gets a giant tick in my booklet.

I also really for example the defensive changes proposed at this point, and I think it will eventually definitely help defenders deal against free-flowing attacks improved.

Again, anything that is possible to stop me being required to change between six different players just to tackle Lionel Messi is a huge plus. I was seriously beginning to get sick of noticing him perfectly and calling for assistance—only to the assistance to fail like an offside striker in your partner's tackling attempts.

Fans will be capable of create rewarding build around opportunities and have the equipment to dictate the tempo on the match through four cutting edge features.

Protect The Ball can enable players to fend-off and block defenders through the ball while dribbling from any speed, or out-muscle opponents for position before benefiting from the pass, then move defenders to carve available opportunities.

Again, another big fan of this one—especially given the fact that you'll now be in a position to showcase whatever tricks you want and not lose any momentum doing work.

How often do you pull off a perfect roulette or lane change, only to have the next step push a bit long and cost people possession? Or how often would you try to fend off challengers from players, yet end up losing the ball for the slightest hint of make contact with from another defender?

All that has been changed with FIFA 14, and for any of us who will not be the strongest dribblers within the game, this proposed feature gets a massive tick of approval.

Finishing has been modified with Pure Shot so players possess intelligence to adjust their stride and approach angle to choose the best position for hitting a corner of the net. Well-hit lite flite feel more exhilarating together with rewarding. New shot varieties include pure strikes, together with off-balance and rushed injections.

Plus, Real Ball Physics now determines the trajectories involving balls, enabling players to help kick the ball using force from distance, drill low rising shots along with accuracy, and blast sinking or turbulent shots, as with real footballers.

When My partner and i first read this switch, I was a bit of skeptical, but I've since been convinced in respect of how important this feature are going to be. Perhaps the best part, in my opinion, may be the early shot feature, which will assist you to quickly get the strike away before an arriving defender can get when it comes to it.

No two power shots or finesse shots are definitely the same, and thus enable you to hit a low-rising shot or simply a dipping shot is a much-needed change to the way teams attack.

I'm not thrilled with the skills this will at this point give Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo when i meet them in the Champions League, but I'm comforted to some degree that my Manchester United lineup—where I shall be hoping to keep Wayne Rooney—will have the same attacking skills to play with.

Is This Manchester City’s Third Shirt for the 2013-14 Season? [PHOTO]

Or perhaps is it their away shirt, or none of them? It's difficult to say, but the newly leaked photo could either be the real deal or a fake. The uniquely designed shirt certainly incorporates colors that Manchester City have worn before. It has the hallmarks of being either the third shirt or away shirt, but we may have to wait and see until the official jersey is revealed to know for sure.

Two weeks ago, we revealed a black Manchester City away shirt, while City's 2013-14 home shirt was leaked in January.

If the above pictured jersey is Manchester City's away or third shirt, what's your opinion of it? Share your feedback in the comments section below.

Creating the perfect Offseason Plan for this Golden State Warriors.

This team's core players are all under age 26, with Barnes from 20, Thompson at 23 and Curry talking about the rear at twenty-five. The potential is high to your two sharpshooters in this backcourt, but the highest upside is one of the young star from North carolina.

Much ballyhooed and perhaps slightly underrated after being seriously overrated in college, he exploded with the postseason, joining Tim Duncan and additionally Magic Johnson as members who scored over 20 points in multiple games.

To look at the proverbial next measure, Thompson will need to become a better ball-handler and dribbler, Curry an increased defender and, most notably, Barnes will need in becoming the scorer he is in a position to being.

The Warriors almost never ran any plays meant for him, only 6. 6 percent of his plays ended up off pick-and-rolls, according so that you can Synergy, and if people reversed this trend, the offense could explode.

Take the Denver Nuggets series by way of example: When Lee was out, Barnes exploded with more shots and a lot more spacing. The future is actually, and with the continued developments on their young stars, the Warriors are on their way to becoming the other Oklahoma City Thunder.

1 Iconic Player to Represent Every single World's Major Leagues.

One of the things that sets Italy in addition to many other leagues is their habit of manufacturing loyal, passionate stars.

A lot of the major clubs have a gamer or two who have remained one-club men throughout their careers, such like Javier Zanetti of Inter (bar her Argentine start), Daniele De Rossi with Roma or Claudio Marchisio of Juventus.

The one that shines, though, is Totti. He has been a Roman legend, and he's endured so long and was so prominent for the national side that with the casual fan Totti will be the face of Serie A.

Newcastle United left sweating after Liverpool hit six of the best - The Guardian

Alan Pardew would probably prefer not to try to imagine what might have happened if Luis SuĂ¡rez had played. The Uruguayan's suspension was supposed to make this a routine three points for Newcastle United but, instead of banishing lingering relegation fears, they folded in the face of Philippe Coutinho and friends.

With Coutinho midfield brilliance personified, Daniel Sturridge the striker he has long promised to be and Jordan Henderson and Stewart Downing suggesting they were not such bad Anfield buys after all, this was the brightest of spring evenings for Brendan Rodgers but a strong contender for the worst 90 minutes of his good friend Pardew's career.

Newcastle's manager had demanded a performance "worthy of the black-and-white shirt" from his players but, judging by their display, several were evidently wearing earplugs.

The game had barely kicked off when Coutinho set the tone, the 20-year-old Brazilian picking out Glen Johnson on the right with the cutest of passes. The right-back – watched by the England manager, Roy Hodgson – delivered a superb low cross which Sturridge would surely have tapped in but for Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa's last-ditch, sliding intervention.

Failing to heed this reprieve, Pardew's defence foolishly stepped out following the half-clearance of a Downing corner. Moving up en masse, they left Rob Elliot horribly isolated and when the ball was looped back into the box by Downing, Daniel Agger, onside and alone in acres of space, duly planted a header well beyond the goalkeeper's grasp.

It quickly got worse for Pardew. Sturridge and Coutinho exchanged passes, the latter sending the striker racing through the middle and drawing Elliot off his line. With the goalkeeper committed, Sturridge unselfishly slipped the ball to Henderson. Arriving at pace, the former Sunderland midfielder seamlessly directed a crisp shot into the back of the net.

Henderson's sudden prominence served to revive unpleasant memories of the 3-0 defeat here by Sunderland a fortnight ago and as the crowd murmured and muttered its discontent, Pardew's increasingly agitated body language painted an uneasy portrait of a man under severe stress.

It was down to their quicker brains and faster feet but it often seemed as if Liverpool possessed an extra player. As Coutinho drifted nonchalantly away from Yohan Cabaye, Pardew shook his head. When Mathieu Debuchy became sucked into a concentration-diverting running dispute with Sturridge he flapped a fist in despair.

An amalgam of anger, frustration and sheer bewilderment was writ large on the Newcastle manager's face because this was a pale imitation of the side who finished fifth last season.

Twelve months ago Pardew was well on the way to coronation as manager of the year but now he was left cursing as James Perch, unmarked and six yards out, headed agonisingly wide when a Liverpool defence generally protected superbly by the excellent Lucas's deep-lying-midfield role was caught cold.

If only that chance had fallen to Papiss Cissé. Instead Pardew's lone striker was rendered virtually ineffective by lack of support from a malfunctioning midfield in which Cheik Tioté looked the faintest shadow of the warrior of old.

It was no surprise when Newcastle re-emerged for the second half with Hatem Ben Arfa – coveted by Liverpool – and Yoan Gouffran on in place of Perch and Jonas GutiĂ©rrez. TiotĂ©, meanwhile, had clearly been instructed to attempt to stick to Coutinho like glue.

The Ivorian, though, had clearly come unstuck and was nowhere to be seen as Coutinho surged forward after seizing on Ben Arfa's concession of possession. Deceiving the desperately back-pedalling Steven Taylor courtesy of an adroit step-over, Newcastle's nemesis dinked the ball to Sturridge. As the former Chelsea striker's rising shot hit the roof of the net Rodgers celebrated goal No3.

Sturridge soon had a second goal. Noting that Newcastle were suddenly holding a very high defensive line, Gerrard unleashed an intelligent long pass which left Henderson played onside by Debuchy and honing in on goal. A neat, highly astute little ball to Sturridge and an ensuing shot later the score became 4-0.

Newcastle's legion of technically accomplished but suddenly brittle and naive-looking French players had surrendered and were staggering around in apparent disbelief.

Next Fabio Borini used his first touch after replacing Gerrard to connect with Downing's delivery before shooting beyond Elliot. Then Debuchy, already booked, was sent off for an awful tackle on Coutinho and five down swiftly turned to six as Henderson's free-kick crept in, unchallenged, at the far post. It prefaced an intense touchline conversation between Pardew and Taylor.

"Going down," sang the Liverpool fans as all round them Newcastle supporters either booed or sat in head-in-hands mode wondering how it had come to this.

Borussia Dortmund: Still rising from the ashes - SB Nation

After a decade of turmoil and repeated flirtations with bankruptcy, Borussia Dortmund are back in the Champions League semifinals for the first time in fifteen years.

On Wednesday afternoon, Borussia Dortmund will play in their first Champions League semifinal since 1998. In that April tie Die Borussen lost out 2-0 on aggregate to their opponents this year, Real Madrid. After winning the UCL in 1997 and making the semifinals in 1998, BVB and her supporters likely couldn't imagine that it would be another fifteen years before they were that deep in the competition again.

The mid to late nineties were the glory days for BVB. During a four year period, mostly under the direction of the legendary Ottmar Hitzfeld, Dortmund won six trophies including two Bundesliga crowns and the ever-elusive Champions League title.

Juventus, coming off of winning the previous season's Champions League, were the prematch favorites over the German side. However, Die Schwarzgelben prevailed after goals by Karl-Heinz Riedle and Lars Ricken to win their first ever Champions League. The UCL title was the first by a German club since Hamburg edged Juventus 1-0 in the 1982-83 edition.

Aside from winning the 2001-02 Bundesliga, BVB began a sharp decline due to extreme financial mismanagement. The club also was relying on several overpaid foreign players instead of producing their own talent. Things were beginning to turn south for Dortmund, and fellow Bundesliga club Bayern Munich even loaned BVB €2 million to help cover payroll. Since Dortmund are listed and publicly traded on the German stock market, the value of their shares began to tank as news of the gross financial negligence displayed by the club's board began to infect every aspect of BVB.

In an attempt to conquer the world of football jerseys, the idea that the club should produce and sell their own football jerseys hit the Borussia Dortmund board, and Goool.de was created. The goal was to create a quality, yet inexpensive, football jersey that supporters would want, while producing money for the club. After an initial period of building the brand from scratch, they would then manufacture full kits for other Bundesliga clubs. However, the business plan was not well thought out, and the always-important distribution channels were forgotten during planning. While Goool.de ma make a less expensive shirt than Nike or Adidas, the inhouse company had nowhere near the distribution capabilities. Within a couple of years, BVB began looking for an economically feasible shirt sponsor and found one willing to bring them back into the fold in Nike.

The 2005-06 season was particularly hard on BVB. After just missing out on European football for the next season, the club was forced to sell David Odonkor and Tomas Rosicky due to their high wages. They spent the majority of the next season battling relegation and then saw Christoph Metzelder walk on a free transfer to Real Madrid.

JĂ¼rgen Klopp was appointed as the new manager of Borussia Dortmund in May 2008. The 40 year old manager had spent his entire playing and professional career at Mainz where he lead them to their first ever appearance in the Bundesliga. His fiery, passionate attitude was a hit with the supporters immediately, but none of it would matter if Klopp didn't start winning matches.

His first season in charge saw them land a sixth place finish and the highest points total in seven years. BVB moved one more spot up the table in the next season, and then the club struck gold.

With a youthful core of players like Mario Götze, Shinji Kagawa, Robert Lewandowski, Mats Hummels, Neven Subotic, Lukasz Piszczek, Jakub Blaszczykowski, and Lucas Barrios, Klopp and company would turn the Bundesliga on it's head for two memorable campaigns. In 2010-11, they captured their first league title since 2001-02. They followed that up the next season by becoming just the fourth German side to win the domestic double (Bundesliga + DFB Pokal).

While it would be fantastic to sit here and wax poetically about how Borussia Dortmund are back amongst Europe's elite in the Champions League, Die Borussen continue to walk a tightrope on how to move forward.

For the third summer in a row, BVB will be selling the best player from their club. Two years ago, it was Nuri Sahin to Real Madrid. Last year, it was Shinji Kagawa to Manchester United. This summer, it will be Mario Götze to Bayern Munich and Robert Lewandowski likely somewhere else, also. While this is not an ideal situation, since the Bundesliga does not allow for single owners (i.e. billionaires) to buy a club and spend willy nilly, a club like Dortmund must be prudent. They moved quickly to add İlkay GĂ¼ndoÄŸan from NĂ¼rnberg and beat Bayern to the punch at securing the signature of Marco Reus.

For Borussia Dortmund, taking ridiculous risks on players in an attempt to win trophies might seem like the way to go about business --- I mean, why not? English, Spanish, and Italian clubs love racking up debt. ---, this is the way the club will operate for the foreseeable future. Buy low and sell high is the motif for most German clubs.

This doesn't mean that that one should count out BVB against Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid in this semifinal tie. They've proclaimed all season long that their objective was to do better in the Champions League this season. Now, two matches against the most successful club in the history of the competition stand in the way of Borussia Dortmund and the Champions League Final.

Malaga Confident of Europa League Next Season After UEFA Decision

Malaga believe the team will be able to compete in the Europa League next season after UEFA lifted their additional year of suspension from European competition, as Reuters reported.

In December, the La Liga side was banned from UEFA tournaments for one season by the governing body's Club Financial Control Body due to outstanding debts and faced a possible further season out of competition if the club did not settle its owed monies, as reported by CNN.

UEFA had claimed Malaga owed player wages and had debts with other football sides as well as the Spanish tax authorities, which saw the club fall foul of the Financial Fair Play rules.

The Costa del Sol side believed it was "being punished unfairly and used as an example to others" and vowed to fight the suspension, as The Guardian highlighted.

Malaga has taken its case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), and UEFA waived the additional second year on May 17 when the club proved it had no outstanding debts, according to this BBC Sport report.

The CAS will deliver its verdict on the suspension for next season's UEFA competitions on June 4, but Malaga director general Vicente Casadois is confident the ban will be overturned, as ESPN reported.

This decision ratifies what we had already said when our fulfilment of the regulations was put in doubt. We are working, and will keep working, on this, as we are very optimistic about the future.

Under manager Manuel Pellegrini, the team were the surprise package of the Champions League this season and were only denied a semifinal clash with Real Madrid by two late Borussia Dortmund goals at the Westfalenstadion.

Pellegrini has been strongly linked with Manchester City before and after the sacking of Roberto Mancini last week, according to The Guardian.

Malaga sold star players such as Santi Cazorla and Nacho Monreal to Arsenal this season in a bid to help ease the debts at the club and are owned by Qatari businessman and millionaire Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Al-Thani, who took over the club in 2010.

There have been question marks over his commitment to the club in recent weeks, according to Spanish newspaper El Pais via ESPN.

If the suspension is fully lifted, it may be too late to prevent Pellegrini making his move, but it does allow the club more room to manoeuvre in its search for a replacement.

Kenwyne Jones apologises to Stoke City team-mate Glenn Whelan for ... - Telegraph.co.uk

Jones has apologised to team-mate Whelan after throwing a brick through his car window, following the remarkable training ground prank that became an internet sensation on Friday.

Whelan was widely believed to have been the player who left the severed head in Jones's locker but the Republic of Ireland international has claimed he is innocent and Stoke are still attempting to pinpoint the perpetrator of the practical joke.

Tony Pulis, the Stoke manager, held talks with his squad on Saturday, before today's game against Southampton, in an attempt to clear the air and is determined to avoid any disciplinary action being taken as he believes it was merely a prank.

Pulis travelled down to the South Coast yesterday and met with his players at their hotel to demand an explanation, but is relaxed about the situation and confident it was simply a joke that went too far in the last week of training. But Jones was clearly still angry after the bizarre incident and though he dismissed any notion of racist or religious connotations he revealed on his Twitter account that he was unhappy none of his team-mates had come forward to own up.

"Secondly i've apologised to glen Whelan for the destruction of his property. For all the people that think that the pigs head wrapped in my clothes was banter great so is the broken window.

"As far as tension in the squad there's nun (sic) myself and whelan had our thrash out and he said it wasnt him so I apologised n im paying for it.

"But as I said if you have the belly to take banter to that level be willing to accept the reaction. Thats final no more comments."

Stoke have launched an investigation into the incident, which was alerted to the world after winger Brek Shea posted a picture of the pig's head in the dressing room on his Instagram account. Further talks are expected on Monday.

Making Sense of the Latest Rumors About Philadelphia 76ers' Coaching Search

The Philadelphia 76ers are in search of a new coach, and it can be hard to make sense of all the rumors circulating about who that man will be.

Philadelphia has no part in the current NBA playoffs. They are not playing in them and really have no close affiliation with any player or team that is.

There are certain coaches that are still a part of their respective teams, and the Sixers need to wait until they are done coaching to interview those specific candidates.

Still though, the need to wait isn't going to stop us from speculating on who will be the right man for the job. Let's try to make sense of rumors regarding Philadelphia's coaching search.

Philadelphia's current players don't get to pick the next head coach, but they certainly aren't shy about who they think it should be.

Michael Curry has been an assistant coach with the Sixers for the past four seasons, and some of Philly's players believe that he should be the next head coach.

Jrue Holiday told the Philadelphia Inquirer that he believes promoting Michael Curry would be a good move for the organization. He said:

I think he was the glue to our team last year. Obviously we were defensive-based, which is big for us. That was our calling card, and Mike was responsible for that.

This wouldn't be Curry's first attempt at being a head coach since he finished the 2008-09 season with a 39-43 record after coaching the Detroit Pistons.

It's possible that Curry's positive relationship with Philly's current players could help to influence the Sixers' front office, but that really can't have too much sway.

Malone has been a top assistant under Mark Jackson (Golden State), Monty Williams (New Orleans) and Mike Brown (Cleveland). Over the past two years with the Warriors, he's been the NBA's top-paid assistant coach.

The Warriors are engaged in a Western Conference playoff series with Denver, leading 3-2. It's possible Sixers officials could meet with Malone on a day off during the Warriors' playoff run, but that hasn't yet been determined.

Malone's experience with this year's Golden State Warriors team should help to support his case for getting the job. Philadelphia's front office should be smart enough to recognize that Golden State's team is similar to the Sixers in a lot of ways. Both teams are loaded with young talent at the guard position and play a similar up-and-down style of basketball.

The fact that Malone was the NBA's highest-paid assistant coach probably didn't slip anybody's notice, either. You don't get to that point without having earned it.

Hornacek played two seasons (1992-94) with the Sixers in his 14-year NBA playing career. He's been an assistant with the Jazz for two seasons now. He could be considered a candidate with the Phoenix Suns, where he played the first six years of his NBA career and still keeps a home.

If you read closely then you would have seen that he's really only in the running because of his former playing days. Being a player with the Sixers for two seasons gives him a little foot in the door, but is it enough to warrant serious consideration?

Earlier this month I wrote an article about why Brian Shaw would be the perfect candidate to take over Philadelphia's coaching vacancy.

I referenced John Mitchell's article on Philly.com discussing Shaw's name as a potential hire. Here's what he had to say about him:

Shaw's name has come up frequently as a potential head coach in recent seasons. Last season, he came close to landing the Charlotte job - which is again vacant after Mike Dunlap was fired - and his name has also been mentioned in connection with the Detroit Pistons.

After retiring as a player in 2003, Shaw, who briefly played for the Sixers in 1998, joined the staff of the Los Angeles Lakers, with whom he won two championships as an assistant from 2004 to 2011. He has been an assistant in Indianapolis the last two seasons.

Shaw's mixture of knowledge, experience and desire all give him an upper hand in this coaching race. Sure, all of these candidates are qualified in their own ways, but none has coached under such prominent head coaches and been talked about as a future head coach more than Shaw.

Learning from Phil Jackson has to be at the top of the list for every coach wanting to break into the game. Shaw was able to learn under him for seven years on top of playing before that.

It's impossible to know if a certain coach will work out when he's chosen, but it just feels like Shaw has the pedigree and fire necessary to successfully take Philadelphia to where it wants to go.

Anchoring Ban; Messy But Right

It's now official; anchoring the putter is BANNED beginning January of 2016. I watched the presentation by the USGA executives just minutes ago and I believe they got it right. Logistically it was messy, but the reasoning was sound and the integrity of the game has been maintained, unlike so many other sports.

I can only hope that the PGA will 'do the right thing' and go along. They have always played by the Rules of Golf and need to continue to do so. Going their own way would tear the game to pieces. Golf is unique in its rules and reliance on player integrity. The PGA would seriously undermine that if they go their own way. The touring pros are a small group, but the most visible. They are leaders in technique, equipment and behavior. We emulate them. Just think how many of us still hitch up our pants because Arnie did it.

Some will say the rule is unfair, but fairness is always in the eye of the beholder. Golf is not about individuals, it's about something must bigger; a set of rules that golfers are expected to implement whoever they are and wherever they play. If your ball is out-of-bounds you are expected to take the penalty whether your fellow players see it or not. Without that integrity, golf would lose most of it's attraction. It's one of the few institutions today that implore us to be our best selves.

All of the controversy you hear in the coming days and weeks will come primarily from the need of news organizations to fill 24 hour reporting. 'Issues' are their life blood and they will try and milk every drop out of this they can – until something else bigger comes along. Then they'll drop it like a hot potato.

Keep in mind that very few golfers actually use an anchored putting stroke – 2-4% of all golfers and 16% of the PGA Tour. How many long putters do you see at your own course? Some won't like it and they'll complain, forgetting that golf is bigger than any of us. How many of us older players lost a stroke because a ball fell of a tee after we took our stance and prior to swinging at it? We didn't like it, but those were the rules at the time.

Then there will be the self serving manufacturers who will complain because they put their own financial interests ahead of the integrity of the game. They'll talk about it keeping people from taking up golf, but that's all marketing speak for 'we only care about our bottom line'. Shame on them for trying to influence the rules.

I'm glad this issue has been decided, though it's not behind us yet. Personally I'm looking forward to trying to improve my own game and watching the last three Majors. I have a sneaking suspicion that they're going to be very memorable.

Carmelo Anthony Really should not be Scapegoat for Knicks' Playoff Taking away.

Suffice it to say, things could have gone better for Carmelo Anthony with the fourth quarter of Sat night's Game 6 loss for the Indiana Pacers.

The embattled forward complete with 39 points and seven rebounds inside the Knicks' 106-99 defeat, but was continually cannot come up down the stretch. Facing a Pacers barricade that increasingly shaded their aid in his direction, Anthony shot 2-of-7 within the field and turned the ball over 3 times as Indiana broke open a game that was deadlocked with three quarters.

The final 12 minutes were some sort of amalgam of everything fans deride about Anthony. This individual consistently tried making games where they weren't, attempting difficult passes due to pick-and-rolls and taking extremely hard shots with defenders—mostly Paul George—draped all around him. New York imploded as a result, the final few no time draining down as ashamed faces adorned the Lenders Life Fieldhouse floor.

The loss sends the second-seeded Knicks packing plus the third-seeded Pacers on to consider the Miami Heat inside the Eastern Conference Finals.

For a different team, a various city, this loss may be a time to share. To look back on what this team won 54 games inside the regular season—its most due to the fact 1996-97—and how this 'Melo-led bundle gave the Knicks their own first postseason series win since 2000.

The Knicks are certainly not most NBA franchises, and New york isn't one to reflect positively for a second-round playoff exit. Alternatively, the focus will immediately shift from went wrong—and that conversation will more than likely start with some playing to denunciate this team's marked by controversy star. ESPN personality and well known contrarian Skip Bayless was one of many first—but certainly not a last—to say 'Melo's legacy will be hurt by this great loss:

All it takes can be described as quick Twitter search of Anthony's name to obtain plenty more where that originate from. Even after nearly shooting the 40 mark and being sensational with the game's first 36 minutes, folks are jumping with the opportunity to throw Anthony beneath the subway.

Why? Because blaming 'Melo is simple. Blaming 'Melo sells tabloids, gets clicks on a website and garners television recommendations.

Blaming 'Melo is moreover ridiculously lazy—especially considering how many people involved with this approach team underperformed versus Indy.

Let's start with Knicks discipline Mike Woodson, who was pretty much played like a acceleration bag by Frank Vogel that entire series.

Throughout this series, Woodson failed over and over to find a placed rotation—a playoff coaching information and facts. There was the miserable decision get started on a Kenyon Martin-Tyson Chandler entry line to counteract Brian West and Roy Hibbert around Game 4, a move that travelled against everything these Knicks did well the year of 2010. The lineup cratered as expected and was quickly abandoned.

Game 4 was also known as the game that Pablo Prigioni played just four minutes. As anyone who watched this series plus the entire postseason knows, the Knicks became a totally different team with Prigs using extensive minutes. They scored a maximum 16 points per 100 possessions more while using Argentine guard on the floor than they were with him to the bench heading into Saturday night, per NBA. com.

And remember that while he played just 11 minutes in Games 5 and 6, Jason Kidd had to nearly decompose in front of Woodson for the good coach to sit him. The 40-year-old future Arena of Famer went scoreless meant for New York's final 10 postseason mmorpgs, all while averaging approximately 20 minutes a night.

Remember those glowing per-100 possessions stats we would always discuss Prigioni? The opposite applies for Kidd. The Knicks obtained 89. 1 points per 100 possessions with him on the ground this season, a rate that would have been by far an NBA worst within the regular season, per NBA. com.

That's all without bringing up Woodson's inane refusal so that you can play Chris Copeland until it was subsequently panic time. Copeland is often a defensive minus, but his capacity to play both forward careers stretches out defenses and gave a Knicks team desperately attempting to find points a spot-up possibility from beyond the arc.

Don't get me wrong, Woodson did make a lot of nice adjustments from Round of golf 1 to Round 3. The iso-ball vortex that will everyone complained about vs Boston was gone, replaced with some great ball movement before pick-and-roll packages.

Speaking of people performed well in that 82-game slog before dropping off a cliff during the postseason, let's discuss M. R. Smith. And let's do this quickly because that's all of his performance merits.

If 'Melo was bad with this series, Smith was a particular abomination. The NBA's Sixth Man with the Year shot a laughably poor 28. 9 percent from the field in this sequence while taking 15 golf shots per game. Smith's struggles date into his one-game suspension meant for elbowing Jason Terry inside the face against the Celtics, and you could literally feel the life being choked out of your Knicks offense when he was and incapacitated.

Finally, let's just credit standing the Pacers. Indiana was the league's best defense over the regular season—arguably possibly the best ever—and did more with the same against the Knicks. Robert George was suction-cupped to Anthony this entire sequence, fighting through a consistent barrage of pick-and-rolls along with off-ball screens. If George hadn't already made an All-Star power team, I'd be pounding to the desk for that to occur already. He's a borderline celeb.

And while Roy Hibbert is already known as one of the league's best interior defenders, he again proved so in such a series. His block on 'Melo Sat night was arguably the turning point with the entire contest.

In essence, this series was a wonderful storm. The Pacers, with athletes all around the perimeter and two strong big men inside, ended up being the elixir to New York's regular-season potion.

Did Anthony enjoy the best series of her career? Of course not. He took bad, competitive shots over great defenders. But that's 'Melo. That's that he's been his comprehensive career, and the Knicks need hitched their wagon to him in the years ahead. You can't cherry-pick bad performances as being selfish and then laud him when shots go in.

It's fair to imply Anthony could have obtained fewer shots and looked to obtain his teammates into a action more. But blaming him for your elimination is lazy, shortsighted and additionally frankly wrong.

2013 Preakness Final results: Winner, Payouts and Arrangement of Finish.

Oxbow competed out to first place right straight from the gates, and he held off a late ask for down the stretch to help win the 2013 Preakness Stakes. The colt won by way of one-and-three-quarters lengths on Saturday at Baltimore's Pimlico Ethnic background Course.

Despite maximum effort coming from Oxbow's closest competitors close to the finish, they could for no reason quite catch him. He or she also thwarted prohibitive beloved Orb's chances at taking the Triple Crown.

The No. 6 starting post always been magical for Gary Stevens and Oxbow, as ESPN Gambling & Info highlighted after the wire-to-wire triumph:

Leading the Preakness the whole time is an remarkably rare and impressive achievements, as Yahoo! Sports points out:

Trainer D. Wayne Lukas claimed his sixth career Preakness, and he set an all-time record regarding his 14th Triple Crown glory. Lukas is known designed for entering long shots straight into races, and fittingly it was eventually the least likely with his three entries that gave him his current win.

Stevens set a moderate pace at the beginning, and he confidently pushed his speedy colt further when he saw not everybody seriously challenging.

Another Hall of Fame jockey in John Velazquez tried using a late charge down the last stretch, but it in due course wasn't enough.

Rosie Napravnik was trying to become the first feminine jockey to win the Preakness for the track she began your girlfriend career at. Unfortunately, she got jumbled to the straightaway, and she was required to split too far on the outside.

There wasn't substantially suspense for Orb. Your dog encountered traffic issues starting at post No. 1, and additionally he recovered too missed, ultimately finishing in suit.

Exacta: (6-9) paid off $301. 40; Trifecta: (6-9-5) paid back $2, 061. 40; $1 Superfecta: (6-9-5-1) payed off $1, 087. 90.

I thought this was a thrilling showcase, and it was a dominant functioning by Stevens. The 50-year-old jockey introduced for seven years just before saddling up with Oxbow with the Kentucky Derby, where he ran to somewhat of a sixth-place effort.

Before your race, Stevens indicated to NBC's Bob Costas that they was inspired by chap aging jockey Mike Smith's accomplishment during his hiatus with horse racing. Stevens' return was clearly more than worth it, as he won their third Preakness Stakes in addition to captured the coveted Woodlawn Classic vase.

Stephen Panus logged an ingenious comment Lukas made following your race, when he undoubtedly had no sympathy above Orb's potential bid for horse racing's ultimate reverance:

While some wind may be sucked out of June 8's Belmont Stakes, Lukas and Stevens don't mind. They've simply fortified their status the most effective trainers and jockeys of all time.

Tottenham provided Pereira expect - Clubcall

Alvaro Pereira's representative says his client could be thinking about conversing with Tottenham if present club Inter Milan don't be eligible for Europe. The 27-year-old has now been associated with a transition to White Hart Lane as Spurs chef Andre Villas-Boas looks to link up with a person who worked with him during his time responsible for Porto. The Uruguay international only moved from Porto to Inter Milan last summer but has been frustrated in his brief time at the San Siro, with the Nerazzurri languishing in seventh in Serie A. The 2010 Champions League champions risk missing being in Europe next time as a result of their poor plan and Pereira's adviser says that could mean the conclusion of his Inter job. With Villas-Boas trying to replace present left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto come early july, Pereira seems as if he might be a potential transfer goal, while his representative admits your choice ultimately lies with Inter. "At as soon as it is his purpose to stay with Inter until 2016," representative and we're calm, as a contract was signed by Alvaro Flavio Perchman told TMW. "Our goal is to stay static in Milan, but it is clear that an offer from the leading European team could be considered if the Nerazzurri decided to let him go. Your choice on if to get rid of Alvaro Pereira is most importantly Inter's. Anything wasn't known by "i about Tottenham, once we haven't had experience of Spurs. I could say that the partnership between Pereira and Andre Villas-Boas is excellent from their knowledge together at Porto."

Everything that Have Indiana Pacers Learned Since Last Series as opposed to. Miami Heat?

This Indiana Pacers eliminated the fresh York Knicks in Game 6 on May 19, giving themselves a chance to prove they've grown enough during the last year to do above make a decent showing against the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals.

LeBron James and Co. knocked the Pacers right out of the postseason in six games this, but the team that fell inside the Eastern Conference Semifinals hardly resembles the main that'll be taking the ground this time. Changes around personnel and philosophy, as well as the general maturation in the club, have created a Pacers team that is far better equipped to handle the imposing Heat.

For beginners, the player who made headlines for the wrong reasons during go on year's postseason run is making them for ones right ones now.

Lance Stephenson got plenty of attention for making some "choking" gesture toward Adam in Game 3 with last year's series. At the time, Indiana's shooting guard was little more than an end-of-the-bench park. In fact, he logged a awesome total of seven minutes inside the six-game series between the Pacers and Heat numbers.

His hustle collections the tone for Indiana's struggling defense, and even though he's not the foremost skilled offensive player, she has proved himself capable of accomplishing serious damage as some cutter and in move.

If the Heat have any doubt about how precisely precisely much Stephenson has evolved, they'll only have to check out his Game 6 performance against Big apple, in which he stacked up 25 points, 10 rebounds in addition to three assists on 9-of-13 photographing.

Plus, he's gone nearly the full year without giving your "choke" sign to any kind of opposing superstars. Clearly, she's learned to let his play (and not their sophomoric gestures) do this talking.

Paul George was officially recognized as the NBA's most improved player this year, an honor he earned by removing on the leadership job vacated by an injured Danny Granger. George developed into one of the NBA's premier perimeter defenders over the 2012-13 campaign, and his value to be a defensive option against James are not overstated.

In last year's sequence, George was only a Pacers' fifth-leading scorer, accumulating nearly as many personal fouls (18) like made baskets (19).

In his most recent postseason action, though, George has proved that he's become nothing lower than a dominant two-way legend. In the just-completed series with Knicks, George averaged twenty. 5 points, 7. 0 rebounds in addition to 5. 0 assists per sport while hounding Carmelo Anthony into a lot of ugly shooting performances.

And through the 2012-13 season, George did a more satisfactory job than anyone in their efforts to slow James down. Nobody can tackle LBJ alone, but George right now comes closer than a large number of.

Speaking of defense, one of the big things the Pacers have learned in the last year is that they'll go exactly where their scheme and defensive discipline can take them.

Two years past, Indiana allowed 100. some points per 100 items, which ranked 10th in the NBA. But this previous season, Frank Vogel somehow got his team to invest in into his defensive blueprints hook, line and sinker.

The result has been a team that almost do not permits open threes in the corner or easy discusses the rim. George Hill, Stephenson and George are experts at running shooters off the line and forcing these individuals into Roy Hibbert's space, where the big male gobbles up penetrators being a 7'2" "Hungry, Hungry Hippo. inches

Put those things together and on the internet see why Indiana made progress of nearly four points per 100 possessions in addition to easily led the NBA within defensive efficiency in 2012-13.

Objectively, Indiana is simply not yet on Miami's stage. The Pacers' bench is still woefully thin, and in case the Heat push the tempo in any way, Hibbert loses a lot of his effectiveness. All of which notwithstanding, the Pacers did take two using three from the Heat this current year, including an impressive 87-77 win on Jan. 8 that George outscored and out-rebounded Fred.

Ultimately, the Pacers discovered a few things given that they fell to the Heat in last year's playoffs. But most importantly, they've seen their vibrant players blossom, their defense morph into at the very top weapon and their self esteem explode.

All season long, it has seemed much like the Pacers were the team which will give Miami the best run because of its money in the East. Now, a year older whilst still being nursing the pain from last year's bitter defeat, the Pacers will obtain their chance to do this.
