2 RCR staff people arrested for post-race combat

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) a Nelson Piquet Jr. Saturday was involved with a post-race altercation that generated the charge of two staff members for Richard Childress Racing, his team said. Piquet and RCR driver Brian Scott matted on the track during Friday night's Nationwide Series competition and in the pits after. Crews for both owners challenged one another when Scott went over to Piquet's car, and Piquet shoved him and then started Scott in the crotch. "When I went along to talk to him, he just pushed and pushed me and then kicked me below the belt," Scott said after the competition. "It is really a chicken move." Henrico County police said there clearly was a struggle in the motorhome lot that resulted in the arrests of two staff members. Michael Searce was arrested on two charges of misdemeanor assault, and Thomas Costello was arrested on one count of misdemeanor assault. These were introduced early Saturday. "Several members of another race group confronted a that involved Nelson Piquet Jr., ending in the arrest of two people from one other race team," Turner Scott Motorsports said in a record. Group owner Richard Childress said once the event occurred his crew members were on the way home. "Our team members were walking for their cars and words were exchanged with members from another team, which generated an altercation," Childress said. "I am still learning all of the actual details and, as it did occur outside the course, and local authorities became involved. We're working together with them to eliminate this issue. "We are now concentrating on winning the Sprint Cup battle tonight." NASCAR said it generally does not comment on ongoing police investigations, but officials were gathering data and would address the problem at a later time.
