Torres opened the score after just five full minutes but Ivan Marcano struck back after the break. Victor Moses set Chelsea ahead again but targets from Gokdeniz Karadeniz and Natcho setup a tense finish. Chelsea were always in demand after taking a first-leg lead to Moscow but did not support themselves with some lacklustre marking. The scoring was opened by born-again goalscorer Torres with an elegant lob after Frank Lampardas amazing move. Chelsea seemed solid during a lot of the first-half but started to come under pressure towards the finish. And Petr Cech pulled off a superb save yourself right before the break to help keep them ahead. A cross was allowed by marcano netted a strong header soon after the restart after some woeful Blues defending in the future in too easily. Moses hit straight back after good quality pressure from Ramires set the hosts under pressure. But Karadeniz hit to give the Russians renewed hope. His side was left by natchoas controversial penalty 15 minutes from time wanting two goals to go through. And Marcano and Rondon both missed good headed chances to essentially show up the warmth. But Chelsea held to keep alive their European hopes.
