Having defeated Maccabi 3-0 in the quarter-finals, Real Madrid is the first team to reach the Final Four in London, to be played from 10 to 12 May The White team thus has a chance of winning the supreme trophy in continental Europe for the ninth time and to enhance even further its legendary status in the competition. With eight European Cups, Real Madrid's record is second to none. What's more, this will be the fifth occasion in history that it reaches this stage of the competition. In London, Real Madrid will play in the semi-final against the winner of the series of games between Barcelona and Panathinaikos, in which the Greek team are currently ahead by 2-1. The other semi-final will be played by the winners of the quarter-finals between CSKA Moscow and Caja Laboral and Olympiakos-Anadolu Efes.
Real Madrid is already a legend in European basketball and once again it has booked its place in the Final Four, for the fifth time. Since the change in format of the final stages of the competition in 1988, the White team has played four and won the title in 1995 in Zaragoza. That was the last occasion on which Real won the European Cup by defeating Limoges in the semi-final and Olympiakos in the final. The other Final Fours that Real played in were in 1993 in Athens, in 1996 in Paris and 2011 in Barcelona.
Real Madrid boasts the best record of any team with eight titles (1964, 1965, 1967, 1968, 1974, 1978, 1980 and 1995). Behind Real come Panathinaikos and CSKA Moscow, who have both won the championship six times. Madrid has reached the final stages of the competitions more often than not throughout its history, as evidenced by its finishing runner-up on six occasions.
