Phil Mickelson's Play at Quail Hollow Is Much-Needed After Owners Ordeal

Phil Mickelson will always have the standing of being truly a tennis good, but the public's image on his power to compete with today's best players took a big success with a efficiency at the 2013 Masters. But, Lefty is doing this week-end to it in the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow and is rapidly removing those memories. Mickelson showed up big style Thursday with an rating of 68, placing only one bogey on the afternoon with five reasonable birdies. Although, despite his efficiency Thursday, it was his second-round rating of 67 that created the most excitement as Lefty joined weekend play at nine-under and with the outright guide. Friday, Mickelson also only bogeyed once. After just as before adjusting his driver, Mickelson appears to have finally found the difference of the Phrankenwood driver that best suits his game. In what Golf Channel has named the "Son of Phrankenwood," a membership just like the 3-wood, Lefty said he is feeling great about the latest tool in his strategy. aTaking that technology and putting it in the driver has kept the middle of gravity up by the facial skin. Itas made it easier to reach. Iam striking the ball so long and straight with the driver as I ever have.a aAt the Masters, I went it great,a he said. aMy range was back up there, my accuracy was back up there. I expect to drive it very well for the others of the year.a Mickelson has been big on his talk of what groups he's applying, but that didn't just turn to achievement at the Masters, where he shot a and 76 in back-to-back models and could not keep it on the fairway. However, it appears to be paying down to date in Quail Hollow. In typical Mickelson fashion, it's not the driving success that has him traveling atop the leaderboards. It is his short game. Heading in to the weekend, Lefty was income from inside 10 legs, according to ESPN Stats & Info. He was also the only real player to hit each of his putts within 10 feet through the first two rounds. Given the struggles he'd on Augusta National's complicated vegetables at the Masters and reading a lot of criticism because of it, this showing of short-game expertise has to be a comfort to Mickelson's greatest fans. Going into this weekend's PGA Tour occasion at Quail Hollow, it was expected to be considered a tough match for each player with subpar program conditions and rough weather. But thanks to Mickelson and a heap of contenders, we've seen a great match break out. Mickelson's love for the game is infectious and will rub off on those he is playing with. Even after shooting a 40 at the Masters last month, he was all smiles and exposed to the press with a rant on how lovely per day at Augusta National is (h/t Washington Times). Whether you are a lover of Mickelson's or not, you cannot deny the total amount of energy andAexuberanceAhe gives to the game on a round-by-round basis. And when he's going through a downturn, the competition he is playing in suffers in general. That's why this weekend's showing to date at Quail Hollow is just a relief for not merely Mickelson, but supporters of the overall game of golf. Follow me on Twitter
