Buffalo Sabres Keep Ron Rolston as Head Coach

The Buffalo Sabres and general manager Darcy Regier genuinely believe that last season's interim head coach, Ron Rolston, may be the guy to lead them toward their goal of a Stanley Cup. His interim label was removed on Tuesday and he was called the 16th table chef in team history (via Sabres.nhl.com). There are lots of angles for this development, but likely the most crucial one may be the inferences that may be produced from the team maintaining Rolston's services. The probably, and first the biggest departure from the status quo through the Regier-Lindy Ruff decades, is the odds of the staff being amongst the youngest in the group. Rolston was brought in whilst the AHL instructor in what the Sabres suggested as "Sabres University" and his function was reported to be that of a teacher. They should see his training chops as essential, which suggests that the group is going to be extremely small next season, if he is remaining with the Sabres. That is not much of a stretch considering the situation the Sabres are in roster-wise prior to the draft. The Sabres will likely start teaching camp with Mikhail Grigorenko, Marcus Foligno, Johan Larsson, Mark Pysyk, Joel Armia, Brayden McNabb, Corey Tropp, Zemgus Girgensons and Matt Hackett in the combination, as it stands. You could make a quarrel that as many as nine of those guys could make a serious push to make the opening-night list, so having a teaching instructor like Rolston might be more helpful than some guy who's going to push programs on the young guys. Still another inference that can be produced is that the Ryan Miller-Thomas Vanek saga is a fluid situation before and possibly after the draft. Rolston leaned on Miller and Vanek toward the conclusion of the growing season and has stated that both would remain with the Sabres "in an ideal world." Basically, this means that a coaching change won't be an inspiration so you can get rid of one or both of the team's stars, however it doesn't mean that they will not be shopped both. His intentions have been stated by regier to move up in the draft, likely from the eighth spot to somewhere in the very best four. It's quite safe to assume the Colorado Avalanche will not be moving from the No. 1 spot, as Seth Jones is probable too good to avoid. Beyond that, the groups finding minute through fourtha'Florida, Tampa Bay and Nashville, respectivelya'could be looking to move down a little given the proper package, which may involve Vanek or Miller. Last but not least, supporters can get to see some growing pains next year. To keep Regier, it seemed they thought they were not past an acceptable limit away. Yet, by maintaining Rolston, they may be admitting they are a little further than you had have anticipated. Regardless, look for this to become a busy offseason for the Sabres, specially since they've Rolston in place full-time. Follow me on Twitter for NHL and Sabres media all season: @SwordPlay18.
