Premier League record could be broken by west Brom teen - expressandstar.com

West Brom schoolboy Isaiah Brown could become the youngest player in Premier League history tomorrow after being handed a dream call-up for the trip to Chelsea.

The Baggies have gained permission to take the 16-year-old out of school to train and travel to Stamford Bridge, where he would become the club's youngest ever league player and their youngest in any first-team match for more than 70 years.

The England Under-17 international has been added to the squad as cover with boss Steve Clarke sweating on several injury problems.

Peterborough-born Brown has been with Albion's academy for three years and his performances for the Baggies' under-18 and under-21 sides have already brought interest from Arsenal.

Boss Steve Clarke said: "'Izzy' has been fantastic coming through the youth team and quickly into the under-21s and he's put in some really good performances recently.

"He might not be involved in the final selection, but the experience will be good for the boy and good for the club."

Brown is midway through his GCSEs but Albion's new status as a category one academy under the elite player performance plan allows the club to take over young players' academic studies.

He is likely to figure on the bench at Chelsea with striker Shane Long among those struggling and an appearance at 16 years and 54 days old would make Brown the Baggies' second youngest first-team player after Frank Hodgetts, who played at 16 years and 26 days.

Hodgetts' appearance came in a wartime regional game against Notts County in 1940 so Brown would be the youngest ever player to feature in a non-wartime match, beating Charlie 'Tug' Wilson's record of 16 years 73 days, set in a First Division game against Oldham in 1921.

Brown would also beat the Premier League record of 16 years and 65 days, currently held by Fulham's Matthew Briggs from a game in 2007.

West Brom schoolboy Isaiah Brown could become the youngest player in Premier League history tomorrow after being handed a dream call-up for the trip to Chelsea.

Dan Ashworth today left West Brom ahead of schedule after the Baggies agreed to let him join the Football Association on Monday.

West Brom boss Steve Clarke today admitted managing Chelsea is a future dream – but insisted he is not ready to succeed Rafa Benitez.

Defender Steven Reid today claimed West Brom can qualify for Europe – if they match their storming early-season form.

"The Baggies have gained permission to take the 16-year-old out of school" - you mean they got a note from his mom? The way the big clubs are throwing money at teen signings is obscene. But anyway, good luck to the lad. If he makes an appearance and scores (helping another Chelsea manager lose his job) then it would be such a massive story that even the national newspapers and MotD might mention it.

Bromham, I can believe that a Pope really can resign, burgers no longer contain horse meat, were all in this together like the Government keeps saying, or even that Terry Connor was always going to replace Mick Mac, but MUMOTD showing us in a good light? come on! stretching it a bit.

I was at the game (against Arsenal, I think, a 1-0 win) when Bobby Hope, then aged 16, made his debut. All the old sages were saying:'This kid is too good for the rest of the team.' We had more negative supporters in those days. When the team trotted out a couple of seasons prior to that - with Don Howe, Bobby Robson and Derek Kevan, all three England internationals - I remember one bloke yelling out:'That's the best yow lot are going to do this afternoon.' Good luck Isaiah Brown - love that 19th Century Albion-like name - tomorrow, whatever happens.

There was an article in Greater Manchester's local rag earlier this week comparing Craig Dawson with Gary Cahill when he was at Bolton. Dawson seems to grab headlines for scoring goals, but far more importantly Dougie Freedman spoke about how well he's been defending since he's been there. Sounds promising!!

I presume you mean the Championship standard Chris Wood. If has was good enough there is no way on earth we'd let him go. Who was the last player we let go to go onto better things?

Tracked Dawson from the England under seventeen's. Bolton haven't lost since he has played for them. Scored three goals in their last two matches. This lad has a whacking big future in international football.

Regards Isaiah Brown (Love his Biblical Christian name), I've heard of fully fledged Throstles but, I bet his shell hasn't hardened yet.

Putting him in the match tomorrow...why not, get him involved and from what I have seen he is more than capable, his shooting is unbelievable and he is very hard to knock off the ball, the ball sticks to him.

Albion play him in midfield but when he gets the ball he only knows one way, powering towards goal, just like Lukaku.

No chance of him playing tomorrow DoLally, just going to make up the numbers as they always take two extra players in case someone breaks down in the warm up etc and then put them on the bench. With Lukaku, Long (probably), Popov, Thorne and Gera out we are down to bare bones!

Show him off at Stamford Bridge, just watched some short video clips of him playing, he scored two or three good goals, one of them (top corner) from outside the box, and he looks skillful on the ground.

Took your advice mate and (Googled https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRUfSl9ocR0&feature=youtu.be) he is like a very young Lukaku, He can do us a good job, love his attributes. Blimey, I'm a fan already.

B90 Baggie- my pal is a Bolton fan and says Dawson has been brilliant for them and is being hailed as Boltons new Cahill! Hes also scored three goals and been Man Of The Match twice already!

There were a lot of people quick to criticise the club for selling Chris Wood, in many cases probably without having seen much of him play.

I can only wager that the club view Saido Berahino and Izzy Brown as far greater prospects, I certainly do from what I've seen of Wood and Berahino.

You could take the long-term view that by keeping Wood and giving him playing time, you're stunting the growth of those a couple of years younger than him.

If Brown's as good as some say he is and Berahino continues to progress, then I'd be surprised if both don't end up playing at a higher level than Wood, in which case you'd have to say that selling him might have been a good bit of business. We'll see I guess.

Got to admit i (probably most of us) had no idea that we had such a young talent that close to the first team at such a young age. But to be even near the squad at such an age......wow!!!!!!!!

I first saw Frank (Danny) Hodgetts in 1944 and was a fan almost immediately. Quite stocky in build with a tricky style. Before you ask, I've no idea why he was known as Danny. Never understood why Francis Lee was called 'Franny' either. Too girly for my taste for such a hard man. I played the part of the prophet Isaiah

in the Christmas play at Hall Green Road school in 1941 so I have a warm feeling for that name, although Mom almost ruined it when she called me "One eye's higher than the other". I do like the way these old names are becoming popular.

My great-grandson is Jacob, Jarrod's nephew is Noah. I even met another bloke named Cyril in the Manor Hospital but he was ancient, like me. No chance there then.

The answer is in the report , there only playing him because Arsenal are in the hunt , if he's plays a part for only a few minutes on Saturday he price tag will increase 10 fold , correct me if I'm wrong but i believe he was part of the Chelsea youth academy before being snatched by WBA

Can't blame ALBION for cutting and polishing a rough diamond and put it in a safe place also to increase it's value, now can you. That is to protect our goods not to sell them.

Anyone think Peter will get a start tomorrow? Listening to Clarkes press conference it sounds like Long will be out unfortunately. My guess is that the team will be:
